Comment: An
excellent site recomended to me by brother Alan Dodd who has been searching
for information on our Grandad for a long time. Our Grandad served on
the Northern Rover and was lost at sea on the 30th Nov 39. The sea has
always been in our blood hence I have just served 19 years with the Royal
Navy with only 3 years left and what a sad day that will when I walk out
them gates for the last time. To you and all that served in Harry Tate's
Navy I wish you all the best for a job very well done and I have the up
most respect to all that died and to all that survived to tell the tale.
Yours Aye CPO Dodd Royal Navy. |

Dear Nick Keep up the good work brother! I'm very proud of you and what you have achieved with this site. This would have meant so much to Dad and I'm sure it means a lot to all surviving RNPS seamen and the families of those departed. A truly unique bunch. |

Comment: Hi my father Tom Hankinson served with the Patrol Service as a stoker. He had three ships. The Rowen, Mangrove and the Loch Buie. My mother also served at H.M.S. Europa as a Wren. I have already visited the museum and I will be taking both of them there next month for their first time since the end of the war. Have you any info on any of his ships? |

Comment: Nick this site is brilliant! It's really great to see the faces and hear the stories of people who served, especially great to see them visiting the site themselves. Your dad would be proud that all his stories inspired this. |

I served as Wireman MS on MMS 1021 from March untill July 1946 on MSML
217 from July 1946 untill November 1947 on ML 250 from December 1947 untill
March 1948 Did I serve in RNPS or RN I would be greatful if any one can
answer this question Thank You Bill Smith. * It may help to look at your Service No. For example if you had the LT (Lowestoft) prefix then you would certainly have been a RNPS man, If on the other hand your original drafting base was Royal Navy, then you may well have been attached the RNPS or 'on loan' as it were. The vessels you were on, certainly did the duty normally associated with the RNPS. Maybe just after the war MS crews were mixed? I hope this answers your question Bill. |

Comment: My father Albert Duthie served in the RNPS during the WW2. I believe the ships he served on were HMS Scarron, HMT Pentland Firth and a French trawler which I believe was the Monique Camile, although this is not clear. I understand he was based at Europa in Lowestoft and if anyone knew my father, I would be pleased to hear from them. He is alive and well and has retired after many years as a skipper of an inshore trawler operating out of Fraserburgh Aberdeenshire. This is an excellent Web site. |
